PM-JAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana), also known as Ayushman Bharat PMJAY or the Ayushman Bharat Yojana, is one of India's largest Government Health Insurance Schemes launched under the Ayushman Bharat Health Scheme by the Government of India. Managed by the National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, AB-PMJAY aims to provide affordable healthcare, financial protection, and cashless hospitalization access to economically eligible families across India.

The PMJAY Scheme provides up to ₹5 Lakh Health Insurance coverage per family annually for secondary healthcare and tertiary healthcare services at over 29,000 empanelled hospitals nationwide. Through this Health Coverage Scheme, eligible PMJAY Beneficiaries can receive cashless healthcare services at both public and private hospitals registered under the PMJAY Hospital List — making it one of the largest Government Health Insurance Schemes in the world.

PMJAY Eligibility Criteria

PMJAY Eligibility and Ayushman Bharat Eligibility are primarily determined through the Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC 2011) database.

PMJAY Rural Eligibility

  • Have no adult earning members between 16–59 years
  • Live in single-room houses with weak housing structures
  • Depend on manual labour for income
  • Include persons with disabilities
  • Belong to economically weaker rural households or BPL families

PMJAY Urban Eligibility

Urban families working in occupations such as construction workers, labourers, security guards, drivers, plumbers, electricians, sanitation workers, domestic workers, and street vendors may qualify for PMJAY Benefits under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme.
